Notes from a recent computer (laptop) repair service in Bristol, VA.
The client’s Dell laptop would freeze on boot, giving the message “BOOTMGR is missing.” I checked the hard drive and memory for errors and confirmed that the existing installation of Windows Vista Home Basic had been corrupted.
I was able to successfully get a fresh copy of the operating system installed, along with system drivers. I installed and configured Microsoft Security Essentials, and I also confirmed that Windows Update was set to run automatically and install updates on the laptop to keep it safe and secure. I also confirmed that all of the existing system software was up to date. These are included in the Speed & Security package, which is included free with any Clean Windows Installation.
In one afternoon, the client went from having no computer access at all to a good-as-new laptop in better shape than the day she purchased it.
