Notes from a recent laptop repair service near Elizabethton, TN.
The client had an Acer Aspire laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium. The operating system had become corrupted and would not boot. The problem was compounded by the fact that a user had set and then forgotten a BIOS password, which prevented the laptop from being booted from a CD or DVD.
Despite this setback, CDV Tech Guy was able to perform a Clean Windows Installation on the laptop. I then created a limited user account to prevent accidental system changes and improve security. For convenience, I set the restricted user account to automatically log in when the system booted.
For increased security, I installed Microsoft Security Essentials and ensured that Windows Update was configured to install all updates automatically, and I ensured that all installed programs were up to date. I also ensured that all system devices had the lastest proper drivers installed direct from Acer support.
